What is the wedding hair and makeup booking process?

We highly recommend booking us 6-12 months before your wedding date to ensure we have availability, especially if you are getting married on a Saturday.  Ask us all of your questions and make sure to request a phone call if it will help!  We want to make sure you are confident in us before booking.  When you are ready to book us let us know and we will send you a customized proposal via email.  We require a signed contract and 50% non-refundable deposit to secure your date.  Once we receive both your signed contract and deposit your date is officially booked!

I don't have an exact headcount yet, can I still book now?

No problem!  You are able to request additional services be added to your proposal up until 30 days out from your wedding date; however, we are only able to guarantee services written into your contract at the time of booking. When you request additional services we will need to determine if we have enough time/manpower available to accommodate your request. The sooner you put in your request the better, but we cannot guarantee that we will be able to accommodate them.

When should I schedule my wedding hair and makeup trial?

It depends!  We typically like to do trial sessions a month or less before your wedding date so that your appointment is fresh in our minds.  However, we understand that sometimes this is not possible for our destination brides so really whenever you have a chance to do a trial will work for us.  Sometimes brides will try to schedule their trials with their engagement sessions or rehearsal dinners.

How do I know if I want to book if I don't do a hair and makeup trial first?

Have you connected with us on social media @theartistsco and read our reviews?  We only post real brides and weddings!  Our artists are great listeners and pride themselves in their work.  We work with the top vendors on Kauai and are well known in the industry.  We always make sure our brides get their dream look!

Do I have to do a trial?

Trial sessions are always recommended however we understand they are not always possible, especially for our destination brides.  If you have time to do one it's always a good idea so that you can meet with your artist and work on your dream look together, but if you do not have time don't worry, we also have a lot of brides that opt out of the trial due to time constraints or location.  We always request photos of ideas you have for your hair and makeup.  Photos are a must as they help us a great deal visually in knowing your sense of style and vision.  We of course will tweak things to what we feel looks best on you and works best with your skin tone, hair texture, etc. but this is just to make sure we are on the same page visually.  Photos are a must especially if you are not doing a trial session.

What should I bring to my trial session?

We will always request hair and makeup inspiration photos right after booking but if you haven't sent them to us by the time of your trial session definitely bring those!  Sending them beforehand though will help us prepare better for your trial session and give us more time to spend on the actual services as it will cut the consultation time down.  You should also bring any hair accessories, hair extensions, and/or veil with you if applicable.  Make sure your face is makeup free!  We also recommend wearing white so you can get a good idea of what you'd actually look like on the wedding day as sometimes wearing too much color will alter the look and feel of the makeup.

What accommodations are needed on site for hair and makeup?

We will need access to outlets (for hair) as well as a chair per artist.  Bar stools are nice to have for makeup artists but not required as sometimes we'll bring our own makeup chairs.  For makeup we always like to be set up near good natural light, usually a window or sliding door.  We also need ample table space as we bring a lot of products and tools.

How should my party and I prepare our hair and makeup on the wedding day?

We typically like hair that is washed the night before.  The main thing is that your hair be completely DRY for your appointment (unless you are adding a blowout).  If you have curly hair and do not want to work with your natural curls (and are not adding a blowout) then come with your hair blown straight.  Faces should be freshly cleansed and moisturized.

How long does hair and makeup take?

This will depend on the amount of services.  Typically we like to have 45min per service for attendants and 2 - 2.5 hours for Bridal hair and makeup.  If you are having a larger group we are able to hire additional assistants and stylists so that we can accommodate more in a shorter time frame, so usually it would be around 30min per service for attendants.  Bridal hair and makeup time is always the same regardless of group size.

Are you able to stay for touch ups?

Yes!  We charge $100/hour for touch ups from the time initial services are completed.

My wedding ceremony won't be till later in the day, how can I make sure everything will last?

We will provide you with a touch up kit that includes powder, lip touch up & bobby pins.  Touch up kits are only provided for brides so we suggest having your bridesmaids/attendants bring their own lipstick and powder to touch up with throughout the day.
